You should have your waitresses wear masks because you are robbing your customers. Your food is as unimaginative and bland as your decor. The only reason for me to be in your cafe again is if I am running from the cops.

I've lived in Havasu for a long time and have heard nothing but great things about Makai Cafe, but I've never been. This morning I was excited to remedy that, but now I'm disappointed that we didn't just go to Red Onion instead... First impression...I don't think the place is air conditioned. And in Lake Havasu, that's a problem. Also, there's no music... Just a big screen TV playing sports. But whatever, my husband is into sports and I can deal with a stuffy dining room if the food and service are good. We weren't greeted -- in fact, we had to ask another patron what the "drill" was, and they advised that we just pick a seat and a waitress would find us. Our waitress was unremarkable. No smiles, no cheerful banter, very inattentive...in fact she was a hair away from being rude. And yet that isn't even the worst part. My mimosa had too much pulp in it, my friend's orange juice didn't arrive until after our food did and she had to remind the waitress. Also her breakfast was delivered a full 5 minutes after mine and my husband's. My husband asked for a medium rare steak with his eggs and it arrived looking like beef jerky. My poached eggs were also over. And my friend's French toast tasted like scrambled eggs. I also asked for hash browns instead of potatoes obrien, but that didn't happen. Why did we not give them the opportunity to make it right? Well, because our waitress didn't check back in with us until we were mostly done and no one was in eye or ear shot for us to request service. We did point out the mistakes and our waitress showed no sympathy or surprise, just asked if she should get us a new steak... And it had been so long already that we said no and she made some off handed comment that she would tell the kitchen. Whether she did or not, I'm not sure. Even after that point her service was bland and inattentive. In fact, it was almost as if after that she went out of her way to avoid us because she knew that we were unhappy. The only good thing about all this is that my crabcake Benedict was actually pretty good in spite of the overdone eggs. But that's certainly not enough to make me want to go back there ever again. I think she gave us a three dollar discount on the bill for our problems, but she didn't make any mention of it -- it was just something I noticed as I signed the check. I made a note that I was disappointed in our experience and that was that... We will not be going back.

Not Open For Breakfast at 7:00?! Just lost my business to a competitor! What time is Breakfast on this side of the bridge?

Great restaurant! Really really good. And the people that work here are friendly. They even have a coffee and smoothie bar.

Been here an hour sitting in the sun. Food should be coming soon... we hope. Had to go inside and refill my water myself. They are on island time I'm guessing. Just saying they are a little slooooooooow. Be prepared to wait. You've been warned!

Great place on the channel to get breakfast and watch the boats. I've had omelets, burgers and breakfast burritos there and all have been great.

Well we came back and visited again,, no one in place yet no drink refills! Waitresses stood around chatting with each other! Food was the same, no improvement! Not bad but not great

Makai's food is normally very delicious and is worth the gamble on the extremely poor service you get from some of the ladies. Their breakfast selections are the best from their menu. Laura has to be the worst server I've come across in nearly two decades of being a part of the restaurant industry. She can't handle more than one table at a time and even with one just one, she struggles to remember simple things like drink refills and silverware. It's not a one time bad experience with her, it's a bad experience every time I've had her as server for the 7 years I've lived in Havasu.

I gave this place a 4 but it would be a 3 anywhere else. Our choices are pretty limited here in Havasu and I think Makai is a great place for breakfast with a super location. The food is good and the service is usually also good so I do recommend this place as it is probably the most picturesque place to have breakfast in town. The wait is typically 20 - 30 minutes on weekends but there's not a wait during the week and they have daily specials..........just remember you are in Havasu and you will be pleasently surprised by this place.

Good, friendly place at London Bridge. You see locals as diners. Should try the pancakes w/ homemade sauce!!! :) sauce makes everything good dipped on it. Happy good. The potatoes are seasoned very well...good sized brunch portion :)

Not very local friendly! A horrible experience for Friday morning. I guess the older visitors with there dogs in strollers look like better tippers. Waited 15 min to order coffee and told the waiter we were ready to order, not sure if he heard but u sat the 2 of us first and still decideded to take the 4 top with there 4 dogs. When we told him to scratch those coffees and we walked out, obviously upset, he says "Thank you". No THANK U we won't be back :) As someone who works in the business, I know how this should go. UPDATE: the manager messaged me that same day and apologized with a coupon so we will try agian next week :) ty Laura

I stopped here for lunch as I had a job in town. The location is excellent but the food is really average. I had the buffalo chicken salad. The staff was very friendly but these days the food should be the champ. Not impressed but not totally turned off.

My favorite place for breakfast on the water. Laura is the best and remembers you and your order. The food is consistent and good, and the service is great. It's one of those small town breakfast joints, but is on the water and easily accessible by boat. They have docks for parking, and if you come by car there is a good sized parking lot as well. If you like pancakes, I highly recommend them and I don't usually like anyone's pancakes, but the syrup is homemade and yummy. Otherwise, I recommend the potato casserole side which is only available on the weekends with just about any breakfast dish that sounds good to you.

Great breakfast, my husband and I both had the breakfast tacos, and side biscuit gravy. Delicious. Megan was great, friendly and colorful. I would definitely go back if ever in the area.

I honestly wish I could give this place more than 5 stars! The food is delicious and the service is PERFECT! It's like going to eat at your favorite family members house (if your favorite family member had an AMAZING menu!) EVERY time we come to Havasu we eat here. If I lived here I would be here a couple times a week! Thank you Laura for the great food, atmosphere, and service! Thank you Colby for the laughs, and great service!

Came in for breakfast on a Saturday morning with the family. I ordered the Breakfast Burrito smothered, with the hash brown casserole. It was a pretty good burrito, but it was missing the sour cream that it says it comes with. The hash brown casserole was cheesy and delicious. Im not sure if it was because she may have been busy (didn't look too busy) but our service was lacking. Server was brusque and rushed. Not even a "how are you?", just "are you ready? what do you want?". Took a while to get coffee refills. I will definitely give this place one more shot. If the service issues were just a blip, I'll be a regular.

We were on our way to the Grand Canyon when weather conditions made it impossible to continue. We ended up staying in Havasu and for breakfast the next day, we chose a local diner near our lodging. We couldn't have been happier with our choice. The Arizona breakfast sandwich was delicious, the pancakes were phenomenal, everything was great. The house syrup was AMAZING. The potatos O'Brien were the best I've ever had. Ever. My god, sonnets should be composed about the potatoes O'Brien. Amazing. Service was good, attentive without being pushy. Will be back next time we are out this way.

This place is great. It has a nice view on the lake, the staff are nice and attentive, and the food is good. Plus you can get a Bloody Mary for $3.50! After you eat there are great pics of the London Bridge. Make sure to check it out!

We were visiting for the weekend and a friend advised we had to try the syrup at this place. Now I was a little hesitant to order something that required the syrup because well the entire menu and all the food walking by looked awesome and I wasn't sure I wanted to "settle" for a waffle... but OH MY goodness, it was so worth it to order a waffle, that syrup is to die for!

We love Makai Cafe! The food is great and so is the service! If you come on a weekend they have an amazing hash brown casserole that is cheesy deliciousness. But the one thing I would say you have to try at least once is their pancakes. I don't like pancakes anywhere else but theirs are the best! Laura and Colby are our fave servers if you can get one of them! Enjoy!

Makai was pretty awesome, I had the crab cake Benedict and it was really satisfying. Not too fried or greasy, not too much mayo... Just a bunch of great, fresh crab.

Best breakfast in Havasu!! Never disappointed! Eggs Benedict is great and the most amazing selection there. Is the strawberry cheesecake stuffed pancakes!! To die for!!!!

  • Sylvia M.

The food was greasy and mediocre at best. The pancakes and waffles were drowned in old grease and I could not decipher what that syrup was supposed to be - it was a mixture of oil and sugar - yuk!!! And the fruit on my kids plate looked like it was from yesterday. I love breakfast burritos and you'd think there's not much you can do wrong with those - wrong. Fried potatoes, greasy bacon... couldn't even finish half. The place is in such a prime location, but needs a total overhaul.

I'm giving this place 5-stars because it's just a perfect little spot. My boyfriend and I went here for breakfast and usually breakfast is just "breakfast" nothing fantastic, but both our plates were perfection. The seating outside was great and it's lovely to sit outside and enjoy the lake. Our waitress was friendly and never forgot about our drinks or food. The food was reasonable priced as well! My only complaint is that it was kind of a difficult place to find cause it's on the lower level and some man brought his dog to breakfast....leave your animal at home when you go out.

The best veggie benedict in town, and the service was excellent. I devoured the entire thing before I could take a picture. Thanks Laura!

  • Amber G.

I ordered biscuits and gravy, it was greasy and VERY salty! I've never had anything like that and hope to never have that again. The kids ordered pancakes, but we all left hungry and it wasn't worth the price I paid. Later I was still working in the area on the island so I passed on ordering lunch from them, but ordered a smoothie. The smoothie was extremely syrupy and I threw it out after two sips, bleck! I say it was a waste of my money, I should have gone to one of the other restaurants or even the little nearby convenience store would have been better!! Pass on the Makai cafe...

This is our second year in Lake Havasu and we have eaten many times at the Shugrue Restaurants. They are wonderful except this one. Makai has the best setting, the food is good but we will not return here again because the servers on the beautiful patio are just plain rude. Last time the waitress was annoyed because after waiting ten minutes to be noticed on a not very crowded day, my husband went inside to ask if someone was waiting on the patio. When she finally came out, she was obviously annoyed and showed it. My husband will not return. Today, my daughter was visiting and we took our two little dogs to sit on the patio. No one was there to .greet us, so we selected a table near the fence so that the dogs were away from other diners. The table had a few things on it from the previous customers. We sat down and were chatting when the waitress arrived and literally scolded us for sitting there before they totally cleared the table. At first we thought she was kidding. She wasn't. I won't go back there again. Shugrues needs to look at these comments and take a look at their staff at this restaurant.

This is the second time I ate here and the second time I've regretted it. When will I ever learn?! So, yeah, I'm headed to Makai Cafe tomorrow for some diarrhea... ahem... I mean breakfast.

Loved our breakfast here. Who doesn't like to eat at a counter like in the olden days? The Breakfast Tacos were absolutely delicious. Husband had the breakfast quesadilla and was doing the moaning eye roller on that too. We will definitely return next visit.

  • Mika B.

We absolutely loved this place!!! The patio seating had an amazing view of the channel and the London bridge. The servers were friendly and the food tasted awesome! I had the steak Benedict and Carlos had the crab cake Benedict and the apple cinnamon waffle. All of it was so good!!! Flavorful, fresh and just all around a great breakfast spot. I also had a mimosa! YUM!

This place is an excellent breakfast and lunch cafe! Prices are decent, servings are slightly large, and their blended coffee is great! I would suggest trying the Snickers Blended Coffee, if you're having a sweet tooth kind of day. The service, for myself and my company, has gotten better each time. I think maybe we have gone when its just been a bit too busy and they can't take the time to dote on each table, which is to be expected. Sunday mornings are VERY busy, so plan to be patient. Note: Diane makes some amazing blended coffee drinks! :)

  • W W.

The food was pretty decent. I had the banana nut French toast. The sausage is really good. We had very poor service while sitting outside. It took over 30 minutes to get our food. I did not get a coffee refill until our food came. The scenery was very pleasant, but the level of service needs to improve. Overall I would go there again and see if it was a bad server or the restaurant.

We have been coming to makai's for YEARS on our vacations to Havasu and we obviously love the food there. But there is no way on earth that we will go back. You have lost loyal customers and we will spread the word, too. My family and I have never been treated so rudely in any restaurant before, and we are from California... Southern California, nonetheless. That says a lot. We walked in right at 12:45 on a weekday after the 4th (i think a wednesday), 4 adults, 2 kids, and the place was empty. So I looked at the waitresses (4 of them standing behind the counter) and said hi guys, and smiled, asked if we were good to stay... Two walked away, one looked down at the register, and the other one rolled her eyes at me and told me to "just push those tables together or something". I didn't realize until later, but the place was empty an they all wanted to go home early. Like really early. My husband walked up to the counter to ask for a high chair and, no joke, the waitress rolled her eyes at him an said "they're over there", and walked away. She came over, put all the waters in a pile in front of me, handed us our menus, and literally asked us right there what we wanted. Thankfully we are frequent diners here so we had it memorized, but to a new comer it would have been really rude. She was super rude, huffy, rolling her eyes, looking around the whole time. It was almost hilarious... Finally we figured out what was wrong. The waitress came back over and asked my mother in law, "are you the one that called a minute ago and asked if we were still open??" Of course we said no. Again, eye roll. Lol. She must have thought we were lying (???) and trying to ruin her grand plans of going home early. We honestly should have left earlier, but it was important to my family to keep up the tradition, so we made this our one last time to makai's. My father in law, who was actually treated the most rudely, still even tipped her 25% because he said "she might be having a bad day and needs the money"... God bless him. I told him he is never allowed to go back there again, even though the food was good, he deserves better. The sad thing about this is that we love to support small businesses and the next time we are in Havasu, we will go to chilis, red robin or heck... Even in n out for lunch because we know the server will be polite, and the manager will hold the staff accountable. There are some awesome servers there at makais that have been great and friendly to us over the years, but it only takes one time to treat my hard working family and well-mannered children like trash, and we are done. Peace out makai's.

I came here on a Sunday with a group of about 6. The place was packed (which is a good sign). Thankfully they had a separate room for larger parties. It was nice because it wasn't that loud and we had plenty room. I forgot our server's name, but he was a young guy and was very friendly and helpful. He kept us all hydrated with plenty of water, leaving a pitcher at our table. Some of us got breakfast items, others got lunch items. We were also curious about their French Toast. So as crazy as this sounds, we all split an order of the French Toast as an appetizer! Haha and it was really good. The homemade syrup made the dish. It tasted like melted candy but not too sweet. I ordered the French Dip with Fries. The French Dip was very tasty and a good size. Their fries were good - average really, but their Onion Rings were very yummy! Cooked to golden perfection! Very crunchy and oily, the way I like it. Overall everything was good. Bottom Line: This a great place for brunch. Decently priced with good portions. Definitely one of the tastier restaurants in Havasu. I would go back again.

We see the potential of a full five star review based on the location & excellent food but were sorely disappointed with the organizational deficiencies at the reception. Both sides of the conflicting 'Seat Yourself' & 'Please Wait to be Seated' seemed more like a roadblock for skateboarders & stood next to an unmanned podium half the size of a church organ completely dysfunctional, blocking the bridge view from inside. The subsequent discussion between two servers seemed like a territorial war while neither provided any welcoming service. The 'fresh' glass for beer is directly from the 'hot' dish dryer! The wobbly table for two was barely big enough for salt & pepper, so the Wal-Mart condiment aisle, placards and missing cutlery is regarded as extremely feeble management. As others have pointed out here: "Service was very very very slow...Don't trust the reviews...the service was annoyingly slow...real 2 star experiences with service...Service is hit or miss depending on who you get.. some really friendly, others not so much!...We had very poor service...I forgot our server's name, but he was a young guy and was very friendly and helpful. He kept us all hydrated with plenty of water, leaving a pitcher at our table...[busboy!]...lots of empty tables but no waitress, sat for over 10 minutes finally decided on meals no waitress, looking around another waitress asked about drinks, no waitress, finally took our order and others served but not us...indoor ambience is lacking...[with a podium the size of a Cathedral Organ blocking view of the bridge]...inside seating area is just ok...[with a podium the size of a Cathedral Organ blocking view of the bridge]...Very poor waitress service, and they always blame the kitchen... Oh well...

OK, nice. A full on 5 star service experience here this weekend. And, it was one of the regular servers too. Hopefully this continues since I do like this place. The special was Fillet Mignon Benedict but I went with the Breakfast Burrito again. It's definitely tasty with fresh made salsa. My partner had the Breakfast Quesadilla, I would ask for a little less bacon on that one. A little pricey for sure but worth it if they deliver 5 star food and service. It's a nice patio location for sure. 22 bucks for the breakfast burrito and quesdilla with coffee and a soda.

I will admit right now that I'm a bit of a restaurant snob, so I'm trying to take the place for what it is. The food was good, but it's kind of hard to fuck up eggs and bacon with hash browns--by the way, loved the hash browns. The waitstaff was super busy, so I knew it wasn't going to be the best service ever. Overall, I'd go again because it was decent. However, you Havasu folks are getting incredibly ripped off by the prices: by comparison, Frank's Diner in Burbank is pretty much equal to this place and about half the price. Here's a fun comparison I just thought of: Waffle House food for Saddle Ranch prices. Yeah, that's pretty much my take on this, and I LOVE the Waffle House.

When I'm in Lake Havasu City, I eat at this restaurant once or twice during each stay because it's convenient, the price is reasonable for the portions and the view is great. It is located under Barley Brothers on the first floor of the Island mall. The last time I went to this restaurant it was a busy weekend so the service was annoyingly slow. If this restaurant is within walking distance from where you'll be, I recommend it however it's probably not worth the drive.

Another restaurant from the Shugrue's Family of restaurants (Shugrue's, Barley Brothers Brewery, Javelina Cantina and Mad Dog's) - locally owned and operated. Great location, fantastic patio. Tasty Eggs Benedict. Walk down the stairs to the lower level outside beneath Barley Brothers in the Island Mall to access this place.

Friendly, friendly, friendly servers was the first thing I noticed when we walked in! The cafe is not huge, but it doesn't feel cramped and small either. We were seated quickly, were given drinks quickly and our food came quickly. The portions were very good size and we really enjoyed our meal. I'm told you can pull up to the dock which is just steps away and get food to go. This is a definite place to eat at again!

Great find! My brothers and I ate here on a Saturday morning. We could smell the bread baking as we walked in from the parking lot. We sat on the patio outside watching the boats go by. I had the French dip and it was delicious. Very fresh bread. My brother had a Philly cheese steak and onion rings. They were crispy and yummy.

Rocks!!!! Breakfast on the water and you can boat in walk up the steps and eat a great meal. PLUS, you can get a bloody maria (tequilla instead of vodka) with a awesome breakfast burrito! Yes, it gets crowded, yes it get hot inside, yes sometimes a little slow, BUT- Relax you are at Havasu and the food is perfect at a great price. Whats the hurry?
